The Paris Junior College Criminal Justice Program is one step closer to gaining a police academy after its Board of Regents recently passed a ‘New Police Academy’ proposal.
According to the proposal, the Police Academy at PJC will be a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE)-approved program.
It will operate primarily from the Paris campus, with additional offerings at the Greenville center on a rotating basis based on enrollment demand.
Enrollment will be limited, and all candidates must meet TCOLE eligibility requirements, including being at least 21-years old, possessing a high school diploma or GED, and passing a background check, psychological evaluation, physical exam, and drug screening.
The curriculum will include the following courses:
- Basic Peace Officer I
- Basic Peace Officer II
- Basic Peace Officer II
- Basic Peace Officer IV
- Basic Firearms
“There is a strong regional demand for this program. Following a thorough analysis of personnel, equipment, and financial requirements, we believe the Police Academy is a sustainable initiative. Additionally, we anticipate opportunities for MOUs, partnerships, and potential donations to support program operations.”
